Whole-School Move On When Ready

Arizona's Move On When Ready initiative seeks to provide all public school students with a high-expectations, internationally benchmarked education that prepares them with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in college, career and life.

Move On When Ready is not just for those students already on a path to academic and career success. For this reason, schools interested in participating in this voluntary program are encouraged to implement Move On When Ready school-wide.

In the whole-school model, every student in ninth and 10th grade will participate in the same core classes provided by their school's board examination system. Services, materials and support will be provided by these instructional systems for all students, including students with disabilities, English language learners and others.

Ready Now Yuma: A Collaborative Whole-School Model

Helios Education Foundation, CFA and Yuma Union High School District have formed "Ready Now Yuma," a collaborative partnership to develop an actionable plan for graduating high school students college- and career-ready. This innovative partnership is framed around the Arizona whole-school Move On When Ready initiative and takes a comprehensive, school-wide approach to ensure all students master a rigorous program of study preparing them for college and careers. The development and demonstration of Ready Now Yuma will offer a model for educational improvement in Arizona that can be used in schools across the state.

Helios is investing $450,000 toward this initiative through a planning grant, enabling CFA and Yuma Union High School District to develop strategies that will require all ninth and 10th grade students to enroll in the Cambridge International Examination instructional system; offer multiple educational pathways for 11th and 12th grade students; provide student academic advising and support; create opportunities for teacher professional development; and provide a thorough research and evaluation component.
