
Donald A. Smith Jr.
Donald A. Smith Jr. served as the President and CEO of CopperPoint Insurance Companies for 16 years before his retirement in 2016. Prior to leading CopperPoint, Smith worked as a Deputy Secretary for the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry. Before that, Smith spent 20 years in private industry at New York-based Continental Insurance, where he was Vice President and Director for the company's Mid-Atlantic region.
Smith Graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1974. He holds a law degree from Widener University School of Law and was admitted to the State Bar of Arizona in 2001.
Smith served as chair of the board of directors for the Grand Canyon Chapter of the American Red Cross from 2004 to 2006, and he was named the organization's "Humanitarian of the Year" in 2008. He was named a Phoenix Business Journal Most Admired CEO in 2009, the Arizona Chamber of Commerce Transformational Leader of the Year in 2010 and received the Greater Phoenix Economic Council Distinguished Service Award in 2011. He is a past board member of the Greater Phoenix Chamber of Commerce, the Greater Phoenix Leadership Council and is past chair of the board of the Greater Phoenix Economic Council. Currently, Smith is a board member of Valley of the Sun United Way where he previously served as Chair.
