Join our executive leadership training program this spring! Beat the Odds School Leadership Academy

Posted on February 02, 2022By Jacey West, Center for the Future of Arizona

Now more than ever, school leadership matters. As the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic continue, Arizona principals have taken on every role imaginable in the school building, all while maintaining a focus on teaching, learning, and student safety. Furthermore, recent research confirms that school leaders are equally impactful on students' learning as classroom teachers.

The time is now to invest in school leaders and their development to ensure that Arizona has enough excellent leaders for every school - an outcome desired by over 90% of Arizonans.

Our research-based Beat the Odds School Leadership Academy (BTO Academy) is one of Arizona's most extensive executive development programs for school and district leaders. Over 85% of BTO Academy participants in 2020 and 2021 said that their participation helped them grow as leaders, and over 85% would recommend the program to a colleague.

Dr. JoEtta Gonzales, Superintendent of Casa Grande Elementary School District, shares about her District’s experience with BTO Academy:

We're starting a Southern Arizona Cohort this spring, and invite your district and/or school leaders to join us.

Academy Overview: The Beat the Odds School Leadership Academy is a hands-on executive leadership training program aimed at helping principals and school system leaders create better quality schools and improve outcomes for students. Within a cohort of peers, participants are guided through engaging programming to gain best practices alongside colleagues, think deeply about how students learn, and collaboratively strategize to bring ideas and practices back to their school communities.

When: The Spring Southern Arizona Cohort will aim to begin near the end of April. Once all participating districts are confirmed, a schedule will be outlined. The program convenes two days each month, over 12-15 months, depending on scheduling.

Where: In-person in the Tucson, Arizona area

Cost: Recent public and private investments from supporters have made it possible for CFA to expand BTO Academy to even more communities across Arizona at a significantly reduced cost.
